The genu Croton L.belongs to Euphorbiaceae family,is a kind of dicotyledon. There are300genera and over800species, mainly are trees andrare herbs. It is widely fornd in the whole world and mainly distributed in tropic or subtropics. At present, there are66genera and abort864speciesarein China, scattering from southwest to southeast parts of the contry, mainly distributed in Guangdong, Taiwan, Yunnan, Fujian (Xiamen), Guangxi and Hainan. Most of these plantsare growing in bushes, woodland or valleys of500m above. Most of these plantsare toxic, and have been used in the treatment the stomach swelling in Chinese folklore medicine. It is krown from documants that early scholars of Croton species were limited to the study of seeds, and less on the Croton genus of chemical constituents. Along with the development of modern separation and analysis techniques by studying Croton plant species we have found that the genus CrotonL. plants are rich sources of structurallydiverse and biologically significant diterpenes. As a member of Euphorbiaceae, the chemical constituents and biologicalofCroton yanhuY. T. Changhave never been reported before. In order to study the chemical comoponets of Croton L. plant, and discover newly structural or specially biologicl active compound, the brauches and leaves of CrotonyanhuiY. T. Chang have been studied systematically. The chemical constituents of EtOH extracts were isolated by means of silica gel column chromatography (CC), preparative thin layer column (PTLC) and recrystallization etc, and13compounds were obtained; the structures of12compounds were elucidated on the basis of modern spectroscopic methods:1D NMR(1H NMR,13C NMR, DEPT and NOE), along with comparison with authentic samples or the data from literature. They were identified as diterpenoid and eudesmane sesgui terpenoid. There is a summary of recent reach on Croton L.plants’chemical components and biological activity at the end of the thesis, a review was made on the systemic summarization for the chemical constituents of the genus Croton L. reported.
