Resources of natural medicinal plants are abundant in China. The use of plant medicine has been in China for thousands of years. However,in today's highly developed medical science, there are still many diseases that cannot be treated.Natural medicines are an important source for the development of innovative medicines and lead compounds for many modern synthetic medicines. It is widely recognized by the society because very little toxic side effects. Some compounds are currently difficult to replace with synthetic drugs for a long time. And natural drugs have obvious advantages in many diseases. Therefore,it is great significance to finding innovative drugs with novel structures and good biological activity from natural medicines for the development of traditional plant resources in our country and to solving the current difficult social diseases. The genus Leontopodium?Compositae?comprises about 56 species and most of which are widely distributed in the mountains of frigid and temperate regions in Asia and Europe. There are 41 species in China, which mainly distributed in the northwest, southwest, and northeast regions, especially in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Inner Mongolian Plateau.About 15 kinds of plants of this genus are used as medicines, and they are commonly used in traditional folk medicine. They have various functions such as detoxification,anti-inflammatory,anti-cough,cooling and diuretic effects. The chemical composition of Leontopodium longifolium collected from Huzhu County of Qinghai province were studied in this paper. The methanol extracts from the roots of Leontopodium longifolium was analyzed by thin layer chromatography, silica gel column chromatography, gel column chromatography, recrystallization and other methods of separation and purification, combined with a variety of modern spectroscopic techniques such as UV,IR,MS,HR-ESI-MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,DEPT,2D NMR,etc.identified 14?compounds 1-14?compounds,mainly including norsesquiterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, coumarins, sterols and other compounds.Among them, two norsesquiterpenes 1,2 are new compounds. Some compounds were test for biological activity. As a result, compounds 3 and4 had strong inhibitory activity against NO production, and compounds 1 and 5 had very strong inhibitory activity against hexokinase 2.The essential oil extracted from aerial parts by hydro-distillation and analyzed by GC-MS and compared with NIST Chemistry WebBook.Forty-three compounds constituting of essential oil was determined.Antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity were test but the result was not good.
