At present, most of fluorescent products are synthetic, such as polyester, acrylic, nylon and so on. But there are no cotton fabrics with fluorescence. Fluorescent dyes used for textile mainly are scattered fluorescent dyes, acidic fluorescent dyes, cationic fluorescent dyes, activate fluorescent dyes which only have two species, yellow dye and red dye. But the price of activate fluorescent dyes is very expensive and the fluorescence effect is very poor which limit their wide application.Fluorescent dyes have been widely used for its incomparable bright ability. They have certain coloring performance and also can emit fluorescence which cater to many special requirements. Up to now, they are mainly applied in the textile, clothing, plastics, printing and other industries, such as professional clothing with fluorescent stripes for traffic policemen and sanitation workers. The fluorescent stripes make the clothing special marked under light, and then increase the discover-ability and reduce the incidence of traffic accidents. Night operation and special operation personals who use fluorescent products as clothing increase the visibility and then improve the safety factor. Fluorescent dyes used in apparel, shoes and hats, hunting improve the aesthetic value of the products and also improve the additional value.Cotton fibers get the welcome of people because of its excellent moisture absorption and sweat volatility, soft and comfortable performance. At the same time, their wide sources also make them widely used. But their limit oxygen index is low. So the cotton fibers belong to flammable fibers. Sometimes they will burn quickly under certain conditions which is a threat to people’s lives and property. According to the statistics, most of the fires were caused by textile, so flame retardant finishing of textiles is of great significance. At current, there are many different kinds of flame retardant agents which mainly be divided into two categories: the inorganic flame retardant agents and organic flame retardant agents. Advantages of inorganic flame retardants are effective, smokeless, but the washing resistance is poor. The organic flame retardants will produce smoke, but the durability is good. It mainly uses organic flame retardant agents for cotton fabric. Organic flame retardant agents also can be divided into durable flame retardant agents and endurable flame retardant agents. Organic flame retardants mainly include halogen-containing flame retardants, organic phosphorus flame retardants, nitrogen-containing flame retardants, silicone-containing flame retardants. The common method of flame retardant finishing for cotton fabrics is the curing method. This paper mainly study the modification conditions, dyeing conditions and flame retardant finishing process conditions through the single factor analysis and orthogonal experiment method. The optimal modification process, dyeing process and flame retardant finishing process are found. Firstly, the mercerized cotton fabrics are modified with anionic modifier, so the optimal condition is found. The modified cotton fabrics are dyed under best modification condition, so the optimal dyeing process condition is found, the dyeing effect is displayed by the K/S value. Then, under the best flame retardant finishing process condition, the cotton fabrics are finished with the phosphorus-containing flame retardant to get the fabrics with fluorescence and flame retardant properties. Finally, the fluorescence effect is displayed by the difference of reflectivity under light with UV and without UV using the color measurement instrument. The characterization of flame retardant performance is displayed through the flame retardant test.
