Heat treatment is an important means to improve the mechanical properties of metallic materials-hardening is one of the most critical processes. To reduce the hardening process and overcome excessive deformation of the work piece occurs in modern industrial production, large bearings, gears and other parts have adopted quench hardening machine to control the deformation of the molded work piece. Currently, most companies still use artificial means to quenching machine loading and unloading, which is inefficient, labor-intensive, quality assurance is not easy, and often operates workers were scalded accident, and a direct impact on production efficiency and product quality.Topics to Ningxia Machinery Research Institute for the IPSEN quenching production line supporting the five-station truss manipulator automatic loading and unloading systems for the study, designed an automated control system to achieve automatic loading and unloading for the quenching machine.The system consists of a control section, operative part and monitor components. The main control system is using Siemens S7-300PLC as the control center and use of touch-screen communication to achieve the set functions. In order to improve the reliability and performance of the system, applied servo motor with inverter to drive with encoder and brake functions through the rack, and then servo motor drives the gear rack horizontal and vertical walking. So the robot achieves accurate positioning when grasping work piece. Using PROFIBUS-DP bus to connect the PLC CPU, the inverter and ET200S to ensure the high-speed communication between the components. The application of ET200S will speed up the installation process as well as to reduce costs and meet the company’s production requirements.Choosing SIEMENS touch screen SIMATIC MULTI PANEL as monitoring system, and design-friendly main screen, adjust screen, set screen and alarm screen on editing software WinCC flexible. We can monitor the running status of the manipulator from the main screen and achieving a good humane mechanical processes hand operation, and greatly improving the level of automation. With the advantages of PLC and HMI, the control system’s operability and safety improved.
