The Exploration And Application Of "Slow Design" Concept In Modern Furniture Design

After the industrial revolution, rapid economic development takes us to the fast lane of consumerism, and the efficiency first fast speed life satisfies people’s material needs greatly. But at the same time, with the stress in your life increasing, the happiness index in life decreased. What’s more, the unlimited fast consumption and waste in "Consumerism" caused the crisis of resources and environment even worse, after that, the waking up people began to search for a method to balance fast design gradually, so the slow design concept arsed at the historic moment, receiving wide attention and warm response. According to the analyses of the origin and development of the’slow design’ concept, this essay summarized the concept and design principles about the slow design, combining the philosophy of our country’s traditional culture and the design principles of Ming dynasty furniture, and searched for some principles and methods in the application of’slow design’ concept in modern furniture design. Through designing a practical application analysis, it points out that the requirements of modern furniture design is focus on the audience’s emotional needs, reflects and inherits traditional culture. In addition, it rouses a higher level pursuit in beauty and life experience, in order to return to the essence of life. Moreover, it also suggests that furnitures should use environmental protection material, to prolong the life-cycle of the product as long as possible and achieve the minimum material occupancy but maximum resources utilization, in order to realize a harmonious relationship between human activity and natural resources and environment. In the end, the essay also expects that through the application and exploration study of’slow design’in modern furniture, it can bring something new to the furniture design concept, paving a new path for the development and spread of the’slow design’ concept.
