Furniture Adaptability Research Under The Sustainable Design Idea

Targeted at various environmental issues and phenomenon of excessive waste of furniture nowadays, this paper has implemented a series of studies on the adaptive design of furniture. This paper intends to extend the service life of furniture with adaptive design, and have the furniture be adaptive for varying demands of the users. The components of furniture will be designed with capability to be updated, repaired, dismounted and extended during usage. By doing so, the service life of the furniture can be extended, thus to realize sustainable furniture. Based on theoretical research on the requirements of sustainable and adaptive design, and through investigation and analysis on furniture market, this paper has summarized the characteristics of existing adaptive furniture in the market, and the characteristics and demands of targeted users as well. Taking emotionalized design as the entry point for adaptive design of furniture, and premised on excellent emotional experience to the user brought by the product, this paper has analyzed the factors influencing the adaptiveness of furniture. From the structure, material and dimension of furniture, this paper has analyzed the characteristics of above factors, summarized the design features of adaptive furniture, and implemented analysis on the adaptiveness of modern furniture from above mentioned three aspects. Based on preceding work, the design method of adaptive furniture has been discussed from various aspects such as selection of material, and design, using and recycling process. At last, a case design has been presented for verifying the theoretical study in this paper. Taking the emotionalization of furniture as the entry point, this paper has studied how to extend the service life of furniture by improving the adaptiveness of furniture in every aspect, and consequently, enable sustainable furniture, thus to serve as a theoretical and practical guidance.
