The drum brake widely used in heavy-duty truck, cracks even fracture phenomenonis very common for the intensity braking. Brake drum fatigue failure is often a huge loss,so figure out stress field, temperature and crack growth behavior field of the brake drum inworking from fundamentally is very necessary for security design of the brake drum andreduce brake drum fatigue failure.Model of the drum brake was established by three-dimensional software UGas the prototype a heavy-duty truck drum brake. To establish a finite elementthermal-mechanical coupling model of the drum brake. The thermal-mechanical coupledsimulation analysis of different load to be done utilize the finite element analysis softwareAbaqus/CAE. Stress field and temperature field of the brake drum inside and the outer ofthe friction when the vehicle have different load were obtained, and the circumferentialstress and axial stress this area were analyzed. In order to prove the Temperature Field onStress Field an uncoupled simulation is made in the same load conditions, and the ultimateproof that the temperature field stress field plays a decisive role. The basic theory and methods of extended finite element method(XFEM) andfracture mechanics were described in this paper. Different depth of the original crackpropagation simulation were accomplished use of extended finite element method base onAbaqus/CAE. The law of crack propagation was revealed from crack propagation processsimulation of different depth of the original crack. This topic provided a reliable basis for the brake drum fatigue failure to and hasimportant reference value for the study of crack propagation.
