Frame is an important assembly bearing loads of an automobile. All kinds of loads will pass to it. So the performance of frame structure affects whether the automobile design is successful or not. With the rapid development of automobile industry the performance request becomes stricter and stricter, which makes conventional calculation methods of design can't meet the needs of modern automobile design. The appearance of computers and the development of finite element method bring on a new revolution about the calculation and analysis of automobile frame structure. Using finite element method to analyze automobile frame structure and taking frame structure optimization into account make sense in improving automobile performance, reducing the cost of design and manufacture of cars and increasing capability of market competition. Because of the difference of the merits of all kinds of FEA software, the usage of several software to analyze problem is becoming a new trend of FEA technique. The preprocessor and post processor function of HyperMesh software is very powerful, which make the software is becoming the powerful tool for FEA preprocessor. ANSYS software takes on unexampled advantages in static analysis, dynamic analysis and optimization design etc by right of its powerful analysis function and high reliability. Applying both HyperMesh and ANSYS to finite element analysis and optimization can advance our work efficiency. Through studying HyperMesh and ANSYS software this thesis built the FEA model of a heavy-duty truck with shell elements. Based on the model the author studied the static and dynamic performance of the truck's frame structure. At last, the author built a simple optimization model of the truck's frame. With the objective that the volume of the frame is minimal the author optimized the carling section dimensions. The major research contents and related conclusions of this paper are as follows: (1) The characteristic, user interfaces and data storage structure of HyperMesh are simply introduced. This thesis also summarized the development history, characteristic and functions of ANSYS. Especially the author studied analytic files, fundamental elements, constraint equations, how to deal with connections,...
