The aerodynamic control missiles mainly keep their flight attitude and path bycontrolling the rudder angle with rudder control system in the flight. Therefore, it isnecessary to measure the real rudder angel to verify the control performance of therudder plane at the production, debugging and testing process of missiles. Thedevelopment of rudder angle measurement system is to measure and record themissile rudder angle. The information recorded by the rudder angle measurementprovides critical database for the evaluation of abilities of rudder control systemalong with the subsequent improvements.After carefully analysis of the measurement requirement, we proposed thedesign scheme of the rudder angle measurement system base on metrological radialgrating with its high precision, large measuring range, high resolution and stronganti-interference ability. On the hardware design, we give focus on the key designsand key technology, which include the zero reference design, the inertia design, theaxiality tolerance design, grating subdivision technology, SDRAM technology andnetwork communication design. On the software design, it consists of FPGA logic,microcontroller software and computer application software. Finally, this paperanalyses the influence of installation eccentricity of the metrological radi al gratingand introduces the calibration method for the measurement system, which consist ofcoaxial tolerance calibration, system zero calibration and pulse factor calibration.Finally, according to a lot of experiments, the rudder angle measurementsystem realizes the automatic measurement for rudder angle, and it is easyinstallation and has excellent performance, the measurement accuracy is higher than0.05o, and the measurement angle range is-40o~+40o, and the measurement rudderrotation speed is higher than400o/s, and the other parameters of the measurementsystem meet the design targets.
