With the wide application of electrical technology on vehicles, how to deal with thefailure of electrical system and how to keep the function safety of vehicles havebecome the hot topic both at home and abroad, especially after the release of ISO26262in November2011. And the electrical function safety of engine is mostimportant as its role in the vehicles.This article builds the HIL platform for evaluating the functional safety of dieselengine ECU to improve the function safety of the diesel engine ECU, and.Hardware-in-the-loop test is an important point in the development process of enginecontrol system, and also is the universal means for functional verification. Based onstandard of vehicle functional safety such as ISO26262, this paper analyses the safetyproblems of diesel engine ECU in the different stage of whole life cycle, and presentsa method of break-down model used for functional safety evaluation of engine control.On the view of safety, it supplies relevant cases for ECU test.This article builds the basic model of break-down model in the environment ofMATLAB/SIMULINK. The basic model contains crankshaft dynamics model, fuelinjector model, high pressure common rail pipe model, fuel pump and measurementunit model, VGT turbocharger model, EGR valve flow model, intake valve andexhaust valve model, in-cylinder model, combustion heat release model, frictiontorque model, heat transfer model, dynamometer model, vehicle dynamics and drivermodel. Then this article analyses the unintended-acceleration as an example andelaborates the methods though three cases which can lead to this risk. After thesoftware and hardware of the HIL platform is configured, run the break-down modelon LABCAR and verify the basic model and break-down model. At last, thesuggestions for improving the safety function of ECU are proposed according to thethree cases. It is confirmed that break-down model can supply various risk cases forDevelopment of engine controller and is the effective tool for improving thefunctional safety of engine control.
