Traditional and regional landscapes absorb and show the local culture, they witnessthe evolution of history at the same time; that is, the regionalism determines theattribute of regional culture. There is a misunderstanding mostly exists in the traditionalcognition that dwellings building are regarded as the core of traditional and regionalculture landscape. It ignores the display form of regional landscape in the public space,especially in the square space. With the repaid development of globalization,modernization, urbanization, many excellent local cultural landscapes are facing aserious crisis that they will die out due to no suitable carriers.The differences of regional culture basically are natural environment differencesreflected in cultural form. In mountainous topography, the complexity of physicalgeography and the diversity of national culture greatly enrich types of architecturalspace. Moreover, various forms of public life objectively provide solid social foundationfor the development of square. Moreover, in the process of adaptation and fusion withlandform, the squares in mountain city not only reserve historical information ofphysical forms and contextual succinct of immaterial form, but also directly reflectspecial mountains-and-rivers to form square landscapes in classes by themselves,and also present a character which is different from city square in the plain. It revealsthe character-driven mountainous regional culture mainly including: the verticalstructure system, well-proportioned space, and stereoscopic multi-dimensional spacefeeling. How to inherit traditional regional culture of mountainous square, and how tocreate the mountainous square with local characteristics? These are urgent problemsduring the urbanization process of southwest mountainous region.By studying about internal relationship and expression pathway betweentraditional regional culture, and discuss the cause factor of constituting mountainoussquare space form. Then, it sums up eight kinds of mountainous square space form withsimilarities, To intensive study the space characteristic of square in mountain city andintrinsic value, objectively analyzes many problems existing in the construction ofmountainous square. Afterwards, this paper will come up with five design techniquestrategies including extending spatial framework of mountain square, coordinatingprimary natural background, protecting mountainous cultural heritage, refiningconnotation of mountainous culture, and intensively forming become a climax of the context. From the outside to the inside, the first three technique strategies ensure thatmountainous square has obvious regional feature in the physical forms, and thenrefinedly show the invisible cultural connotation.
