With the development of our economy and society and the improvement of people’smaterial and cultural living standards, more requirements are raised about the usingfunctions of stadium. There have been more and more large span structure forms, such astensegrity structure, membrane structure, retractable structure and so on. All these differentstructures constitute large quantities of magnificent and beautiful-designed large spanstadiums, such as airport and gym. The retractable structure, with the main characteristic ofa retractable roof, develops very fast in recent years. This kind of structure can ensurepeople to close the roof in bad weather, so that people can carry on activities inside thestadium. People can also open the roof in fine weather to enjoy the sunshine and nature. The retractable structure is a relatively complex new model and the study on it is still notin depth, so it is necessary to study the dynamic capacity of retractable structure. The natural frequency and seismic response of a model are researched through the useof SAP2000, and a comparison is made with the supported grid structure. Subspaceiteration method is used in modal analysis and time-history method is used in seismicresponse analysis. The study shows that: the frequency of retractable structure is changingwith the position of the roof; The natural frequency of retractable structure is relativelydense and there are jumps in adjacent frequency; Compared with supported gridstructure, the rigidity and natural frequency of retractable structure is lower; The seismicresponse of retractable roof is heavier than the substructure, so the rigidity of retractableroof should be considered more when design; The half opened state is the unfavorable statewhen the X direction seismic wave functions, and the closed state is the unfavorableposition when the Y and Z direction seismic wave functions; The seismic response inhorizontal direction is in priority to retractable structure. The seismic response in Ydirection is the most unfavorable, and seismic response in Z direction is small but shouldnot be neglected; The seismic response maximum of retractable structure is heavier thansupported grid structure in X and Y direction and there are little difference in Z direction.
