The research and testing methods for vehicle anti-lock system (ABS) are stillbased on road experiments for the time being, which is expensive and time consuming.Accurate, reliable and practical simulation is therefore of great importance to theresearch of the vehicle ABS. The present works of ABS simulation are lack ofmodules of specific components and the whole vehicle system, and thosemathematical models are unable to describe the real system precisely. Moreover, roadinformation can be acquired by monitoring the status of the tires, which enables smarttires to improve the performances of the ABS with the aides of specific sensors tomeet the monitoring requirements. This paper concerns the implementation of PVDF multi-sensors in smart tire ABS.The following works have been accomplished:1. Based on the interdisciplinaryphysical system modeling and simulation tool Matlab/Simscape, the physical modelof the ABS which consists of wheel speed sensors, hydraulic braking system, ABSlogic control module and the double wheels model with air resistance has been built;2.The analysis on the principle and performances of the PVDF sensor has been done, and the model of the PDVF sensor array in the smart tire has been built;3. Based onthe above works, the simulation on the breaking process for three conditions includingdry asphalt, wet soil and snow has been done, and the implementation of the PVDFsensors in ABS has been discussed. The research of this paper demonstrates that, the Simscape based model is closerto the real physical system and is more suitable for carrying dynamic analysis on theABS, comparing to the conventional modeling tools. The PVDF sensors can be veryhelpful to the real-time estimation of the road adhesion coefficient by providingaccurate and reliable information on the tire-road interaction, which makes it feasibleand practical for building tire-road dynamic model and improving ABS performances.
