Steel building structure has been reasonable and widely used. As the developmentof technology level in the field of civil engineering, the large cantilever, large spanand complex steel structure have become the focus of space structure. Based on theTianjin Grand Theater project, the key technical difficulties are analyzed according tothe design and construction of Tianjin Grand Theater.In Tianjin Grand Theater, huge truss with corrugated plates is designed to reducethe deflection of the cantilever. The shear capacity and tensile strength of the platesare utilized. Based on previous researches, the theoretical analysis of stressed skindiaphragm is put forward in this paper. By the comparison between truss without steelplates, truss with flat steel plates and the truss with corrugated steel plates, thedisplacement and internal force of the structure are analyzed with the finite elementanalysis.The behavior of the structure can be improved when the thin steel plates coveredthe truss. The skin stress diaphragm makes contribution to the structure by thein-plane stress which has little effect on the bar element of out-of-plane. When thetruss has vertical deformation under vertical force, tensile strength of the plates needto be utilized to resist such deformation. In this situation, truss with flat steel plateshas better ability to control the vertical deformation than the truss with corrugatedsteel plates. It reflects that the corrugated steel plates are lack of general longitudinalstiffness.There are more than one hundred different types of supports under the roof ofTianjin Grand Theater. Besides, many trusses are discontinuous. In this case, thepre-set deformation value is put forward in this paper. The displacement and internalforce during support demolition processes are analyzed by simulating constructionprocess. According to the result calculated in this paper, the supports can satisfy thestrength, stiffness and stability requirement during the load converting process.Finally, the theoretical analysis of welding temperature field and residual stress isstated. The theoretical analysis is the basic analysis of welding of steel roof structure.The welding characteristics and difficulties of steel roof structure of Tianjin GrandTheater is summarized in this paper. Besides, the welding principle and welding sequence are put forward.
