As one of the most important components of large aperture telescope, the primary mirror’s material, lightweight structure and its support system had a deeply impact on the quality of imaging. So it is very important to study on the support technology of large mirror. This paper studies on a1.23m SiC primary mirror of a large telescope, especially for its material SiC and its lightweight structure, as well as its support system. This study has provided some accordance to the large telescope study.First, based on large number of papers and accordance, this paper introduced the most useful mirror materials and these developments these years. Then we concluded the advantage as well as disadvantage of the SiC as mirror material. Meanwhile, this paper introduced useful lightweight structure using worldwide, and used fan-shaped sandwich structure as the mirror’s lightweight structure based on the property of SiC, which is showed useable and correct at the end of the analyze behind.Second, according to large number of papers and accordance, we concluded the support technique abroad and domestic. According to the comparison of these techniques, this paper brought out an all-flexible support structure for the1.23m SiC primary mirror. This support system concludes a flexible lateral support structure and a flexible axial support structure. The flexible axial support structure has18thin poles working together as a whiffle-tree structure, and the flexible lateral support structure has6A-frame structure containing flexure hinges.Based on the design above, we analyzed the lightweight structure of SiC mirror. Meanwhile, we analyzed the important parameters of the flexible axial support structure and the flexible lateral support structure. We set some appropriate parameters of the support system and achieved a perfect mirror surface shape and a perfect rigid body movement. Accoding to the analyses, we verified the accuracy of the design of the system, and set some plans for the future work.
