With the development of railway, Electrified railway has entered the overall constructing and using period. Power factor is one of the important standards used to measure the quality of electric energy. The electrified railway owns high content of harmonic, low power factor, and the independence of single phase causes the negative sequence current in the power system. Reactive power, negative sequence and harmonic become increasingly serious problems which should be resolved urgently. The special power supply pattern of electrified railway, i.e. three phase becomes two phase, and special load conditions, would cause a lot of harmonic and reactive power extremely easily, thus the power quality would be influenced seriously, and the same to its normal operation. This paper studied the principles, classification, and forms of main circuit of thyristor switching capacitor (TSC) of the reactive compensation electrified railway. According to the reactive power generation characteristics of electrified railway, we used thyristor switching capacitor to achieve the reactive power compensation. Through controlling the thyristor trigger angle to regulate the induced current, we achieved the purpose of reactive power compensation. Finally, we utilized the Matlab simulink to reach the simulation results, and chose the best triggering Angle by comparison in order to improve the power factor.
