Research of Virtual Product Design Based on FreeForm is one of the important topics in research field of virtual reality, it contacts the forward position of the computer application technology, to scientific research and social practice are of great value.It can be applied to human-computer interaction, education, animation, Aerospace, film animation, medical science and other fields.This paper includes following aspects:(1) Understanding the development and current situation of geometric modeling system and the haptic system development, comparative analysis of a wide variety of modeling technology. This paper puts forward three kinds of modeling method based on FF.(2) Analysing structure and principle of the force feedback system and PHANTOM Desktop. It studies the OpenHaptics toolkits.(3) It analyzes the mathematical description of virtual clay in the system.Using VC++and OpenGL as programming tools, read and display the STL file.(4) It used the method of production design of the virtual toy model, in the fur production stage, using three methods, effectively demonstrate the hair of biological model.(5) Combined with Illustrator, the paper completed crafts "cup of coffee" production, design the appropriate section line and axis of rotation to achieve the virtual clay generated automatically.(6) Importing STL data obtained by multi mode editing to complete the data reverse repair.(7) Prospect of the system in computer science and technology, engineering modeling, animation and educational application.
