The shock absorber is an important component of the vehicle suspension,because it can determine and influence the ride comfort and safety of the vehicle. Thetopic of this paper is to design and manufacture a suitable shock absorber for off-roadvehicles used in a variety of road conditions, based on vehicle parameters of the JeepWrangler Sahara2011.Firstly, analyze the dynamics of the vehicle suspension system throughestablishing the dynamic model of the vehicle suspension system. Establish theobjective function and the mathematical model of the damping ratio of the vehiclesuspension system in order to optimize the design goal of improving the ride comfortand handling the stability of the vehicle. And derive the speed characteristicparameters of the shock absorber which matches with the vehicle suspension bestusing of the vehicle parameters of the Jeep Wrangler Sahara2011.Secondly, study the basic theory of structural design and characteristicssimulation of the shock absorber, and establish the recovery and compressionmathematical model and the oil circulation model of the shock absorber so as todeduce the calculation formula of the operating characteristics of the shock absorber.At the same time research on the optimized design method of valves parameters ofthe shock absorber and establish the ANSYS finite element analysis model of dampersuperimposed valve plates to get an accurate value of the deformation of valve plates.Finally, after getting the design parameters and finishing the characteristicssimulation of the shock absorber, design the structure of the shock absorber andmanufacture the prototype. Having done the performance tests of the sock absorberusing a dedicated test bench to verify the correctness of the design and the actualeffect of the use. The test results show that the design of the shock absorber isreasonable and it can meet the requirements of off-road vehicles.
