After the reform and opening-up policy, China’s economy has been a largedevelopment, at the same time, economic growth has provided adequate funding forhighway construction, as a result, highway mileage has been rapid growth, whichgreatly facilitate the lives of the people. However, with the increase of the vehicle, thetraditional means of labor costs has not been able to meet the needs of existinghigh-speed development, so, in response to this reality of the situation, the thesis hasdesigned a OBU for highway ETC application.Firstly, the research background and significance of ETC and the developmentcondition at home and abroad are introduced in the thesis. Secondly, it begins tointroduce the DSRC protocol specifically for the ETC system in China. Then it givesOBU system’s functional requirements and the selection of the core chip. The designuses two electronic tags and dual-interface CPU card, moreover, taking into the securityrequirement of the system transaction, using ESAM module particularly. Furthermore,inthe choose of chip, the principle of low power consumption and meet the designrequirements has been used, therefore, choosing MSP430F5418A as MCU, NXP’sRC522as HF chip for IC card, BEKEN’s BK5822as RF transceiver. Then, according tothe system architecture, design and analysis of circuit schematics and PCB layout of theOBU system has been completed. Meanwhile, the sofeware design of the OBU system,including the main program, the drivers of the various modules, the data link layer ofDSRC protocol design and implementation. After completing the hardware and softwaredesign, the test and verification of the performance of each module have been made.The test results show that the design of the OBU system in this paper has thecharacteristics of high performance-to-price ratio and small volume, which accords withthe expected design thought.
