Nowadays masonry buildings are widely used in China. At the inception, many masonry buildings were designed only considering the effect of vertical loads without earthquake action. The other question is masonry materials belong to brittle materials with lower tensile strength, shear strength and flexure strength, masonry structure maybe seriously disrupted when suffering powerful earthquake action. Therefore, it seems important to seismic strengthened existing masonry structure.CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforcing plastics) is a new, efficient technology of building structure reinforcement. Carbon fiber has widely applied to in strengthening concrete structures due to its light weight, resistance to corrosion, high strength, antimagnetic, electricity prevention, heat resistance and convenient construction.The domestic and international scholars have already formed mature theory of applying carbon fiber reinforced polymer on concrete structures strengthened, but the research on masonry structure strengthened is still in an infantile stage. Its theories and research approaches need to be further explored. On the basis of strengthening and repairing the extant oldest building in China and existing masonry building, this dissertation explores and envisages the seismic behavior of brick masonry walls reinforced with CFRP, to provide references for the application and standard of CFRP in the field of masonry structure reinforcement.At first, the features of masonry structure and its general strengthening methods were explained in this article. Then we introduced the mechanical property of carbon fiber and overseas research present situation on CFRP. Next the masonry wall reinforced by carbon fiber sheet were non-linear analyzed utilize general FEM software ANSYS. The analysis described the failure mode, stress state and crack distribution situation of strengthened walls with different methods. This paper researched that carbon fiber reinforced masonry walls improved the deformability and ultimate bearing capacity. And comprehensive analyzed the stress changes and loading features of each model wall.Compared the anti-seismic effect of four ways of carbon fiber sheet pasting to strengthened walls. Discussed the vertical normal stress, width-length ratio of the wall and the number of carbon fiber sheet layers had different influence in reinforcement effect.According to ANSYS analysis result, masonry walls reinforced with CFRP had striking highly shear strength, deformation performance and seismic behavior.As mentioned, applying carbon fiber reinforcement technology on brick masonry structure has broad prospects of development. The article also raised questions to be solved based on research results.
