Masonry structure is the most common structural form in China, Related statistics show that the the masonry buildings account for more than80%of the total housing stock, the study of masonry structures seismic performance has a very important significance.With the innovation and development in building materials, concrete small hollow block as a new material is flourishing. In recent global earthquakes occur frequently, especially masonry structural damage in the earthquake prompte the seismic study of masonry structures.Through the previous earthquake damage survey, analyze destruction of masonry structures load-bearing walls as the main lateral force resisting member, study the different characteristics of shear failure mode and bending failure mode, put forward wall component in bending failure mode has efficient seismic capacity. In this paper, two different structure of small concrete hollow block masonry walls is analyzed the different failure mode and the seismic performance in earthquake simulation experiments.Analyze the effect of different high shear span ratio and structural measures to the failure mode. The content of this study subordinate to the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NO.50978177)The paper introduce the design and production of test specimens. Through a combination of engineering and earthquake damage,one rectangular section wall with windowsill and rectangular section wall without windowsill as a typical wall sheet, the reinforcement design is based on experimental research purposes. Introduce walls production in all aspects and detailed steps, as well as the production of mortar test block, concrete block and steel specimens, to create the preconditions for a test study.The paper introduce the experimental hydraulic servo system and the jack system, including aspects and advantages of the hydraulic servo loading,meanwhile introduce experimental displacement and strain instrument acquisition system, the installation of the specimen wall and various types of sensors.The paper introduces test process and the destruction of the specimen, do the qualitative analysis of the development of cracks and determine the specimen failure modes. Two specimens shear span ratio are calculated and the effect of different shear span ratio is analyzed. Sort out and analyze test data to get specimens yield point, ultimate strength, ultimate displacement ductility factor, damping ratio and other parameters. Analyze the pros and cons of different failure modes in the earthquake, to draw bending failure pattern is superior to the shear failure pattern. small concrete hollow block is as a brittle material,its bending failure has a good seismic performance compared to the block structure in shear destruction, showing good ductility and energy dissipation capacity. Also shows through appropriate structural measures the failure modes of the block wall can be changed. That put forward a new way for small concrete hollow block masonry structure design.
