As the rapid development of the car ownership and expressway mileage, the traffic accident rate is significantly increasing. According to the statistical data of2010, the rear-end collision is the most popular accident forms, up to39percent. Collision accidents that cars crash the truck’s rear occur frequently. The rear under-run of truck is generally installed simple protective device. It is efficient in low-speed collisions, and it is useless in the high speed, unable to prevent cars from knocking into vans. Therefore, effective energy absorption equipment on rear under-run of the truck is imperative.Firstly, a typical accident cases cars crash the truck’s rear is used as reference in this paper. Using the theory of the law of conservation of energy and the characteristics of the rear-end collision, the functional requirements is proposed. According the mechanical design theory and orthogonal table, the energy absorption equipment is proposed, using the characteristics of bolts shearing and thin-walled beams buckling deformation. Secondly, with the design of energy absorption device as the research object, using Pro/E software to carry on the overall modeling, and establishing the finite element model of the device through the structure of reasonable simplified. Under ANSYS/Workbench environment, the Static Structural analysis and Modal analysis are established. Structure deformation and each order natural frequencies were obtained through static structural analysis and modal analysis of the model system respectively. Finally, utilizing software ANSYS/LS-DYNA carried on simulation, the mass block impacts the equipment at the speed of120km/h in full width collision and40%offset collision respectively. Under the situation of knowing the collision process, the displacement curves and acceleration curves and energy curves of the structure were obtained, in order to verify the reliability. The simulation results show that the equipment can effectively avoid the car drill into the truck in a high-speed collision, use its own structure to increase the energy absorbing space.
