Two-way reinforced composite foundation is a new type of foundationtreatment, which is largely used to strengthen subgrade and improve geologicalconditions in China and abroad. Due to its good reinforcing performance, it has beenwidely applied in engineering.Composite modulus is one of the key parameter s to calculate the settlement ofcomposite foundation, it is mainly calculated by the area weighted formula at present,and the practice proves that the value calculated by this method has quite bigdeviation from the measured values. Asymptotic homogenization method (AHM) is amethod solving the equivalent elastic modulus of composite materials. This paperintroduces a mathematical method-asymptotic homogenization method to calculatethe settlement of Two-way reinforced composite foundation.The main work is as follows:(1) Regard pile composite foundation and the geocell reinforcement as structurewith periodic arrangement. Establish its periodic unit cell, using ANSYS software tobuild three-dimensional finite element analysis with selected unit cell. Thenrealizeing the AHM, calculate the equivalent elastic modulus of pile compositefoundation and the geocell reinforcement.(2) Realize AHM calculation by ANSYS and get the equivalent elastic modulus.By adopting the stratified summation method, the settling volume of geocellreinforcement under loads was obtained;(3) After trying secondary homogenization method on the geogrid cushions, andcalculating the equivalent elastic modulus on the AHM method of compositefoundation. Finite element settlement calculation was done on an engineeringproject.(4) To study the effect of horizontal geotextile and pile on compositefoundation settlement. Use the research methods in this paper to analyze howdifferent types of factors, which including pile modulus, area replacement ratio,strength and layer number of geosynthetic materials etc. affect the settlement oftwo-way reinforcement composite foundation.This paper shows: By adopting progressive homogenization method, compositemodulus of vertical reinforcement composite foundation, horizontal reinforcementcomposite foundation and bidirectional reinforcement composite foundation can be calculated, then the settlement volume can be figured out. Comparison between thecalculated value and actual settlement of engineering project shows that both valuesare in good coincidence. It is a good proof that the point in this paper-adoptingprogressive homogenization method to calculate the settlement of bidirectionalreinforcement composite foundation is logical and feasible. By analyzing the maininfluence factors on bidirectional reinforcement composite foundation settlement, itshows pile replacement ratio is the most important one, the critical modulus is existwhile calculating the settlement.
