China’s coal power plant capacity accounts for more than80%of the national totalgenerating capacity, making economically and reasonably use of coal resources will befar-reaching significance to the country’s sustainable development. Many domestic andoverseas scholars are dedicated to researching mixed coal combustion characteristic, but studyon the particle characteristics and combustion characteristics with different mixing way needto get further research.Different coal-blending ways include first mixed then grinded(mixing before grinding)and first grinded then mixed(mixing after grinding) in the coal-fired power plant.. Anexperimental investigation on the effects of2coal-blending ways on particle sizesdistributions and combustion characteristics of12coal samples (Longping’s coal, Wanliu’scoal, and both of five blending ratio mixed coal) were conducted by the Easysizer20laserparticle size analyzer and the thermogracimetric analyzer respectively. The experimental results show that the particle size distribution of mixing beforegrinding coal, which is composed of much more portion of small size coal, is similar with thebituminous coal of Wan Liu, while the mixing after grinding coal is close to the anthracitecoal from Long Ping. In the process of grinding, with the shear and extrusion in themechanical blender, the proportion of small size coal increased, volatile easily released andthe ignition temperature was lowered. What’s more, with large surface area, the minor particlecoal can adequately contact with oxygen, improving the ignition characteristics, the burn-outcharacteristics and the comprehensive combustion characteristics.
