With the development of the high speed and heavy haul railway, rail contact default such as corrugation and peeling off occur more and more. Rail grinding has become increasingly popular as a means of correcting surface damage to rails, and also controlling wheel contact position(s) and railhead profile. Rail grinding is a practical and economical technique for not only removing surface defects but also maintaining favorable rail profiles.In this paper, it is mainly to study on the principle , function, strategy, limit .process and quality of the rail grinding, it is important to analyze on the rail grinding process and the fully and reasonable use of the grinding machine in practical transit system.To the equipment of rail grinding, it mainly introduce performance of the PGM-48 grinding machine used in Shenyang Railways and the controlling of the process.According as the preventive rail grinding experience of NRC of Canada, it also tries to present a rail grinding strategy and process for practical use in Shenyang Railways. In this paper, it is important to emphasize the relations between grinding s peed and the window time on the spot .between the grinding power and the grinding quality .between the motor angle and the roughness of the surface(the force effect on the rail). Look forward these experience to have benefit to rail grinding on the spots.It also estimate the economic effort of rail grinding referring to domestic and foreign experience.
