With the deterioration of environment and the aggravation of energy crisis, therenewable energy exploration and utilization are given increasing attention by manycountries around the world. As a kind of clean and renewable energy, the wind-energygeneration is developed rapidly. Compared with the wind power generation systembased on DFIG, the permanent magnet synchronous wind energy generation systemhas features of higher generation efficiency, simpler structure and higher operationreliability. The full-scale converter is used in PMSG generation system. Thewind-energy utilization efficiency, the generator output active power and thefluctuation of the torque are directly influenced by the control of generator-sideconverter. On the other hand, the active power transmission and the power factorregulation are influenced by the control of grid-side converter. So, to adopt anappropriate control strategy is the key factor to improve the system performance.The PMSG generation system with back-to-back PWM converter is studied inthis paper. At first, the paper analysis the basic principle of PMSG, converter modeland PMSG model are established and analysed, vector control strategy of generator-side converter is studied. According to the wind turbine operation characteristic, theclose loop power control is used to realize the maximum wind energy tracking.Voltage orientation control strategy in grid-side converter is designed to constant DCbus and adjust power factor. In order to verify feasibility of control strategy,Simulation model is built based on MATLAB/Simulation platform, which constitudeby converter and control model, PMSG model, wind turbine model. A softphase-locked loop based on variable parameter PI control is designed to solve thephase locked inaccuracy problem when the grid voltage is under distortedcircumstance. Lastly, the PMSG generation system is designed with IGBT model andPXI controller base on LabVIEW. A simple and effective way of PMSG parametersmeasurement and its rotor initial angle detection is adopted. The experimental resultshow that on PMSG generation control system with proposed control strategy,maximum wind energy tracking control and variable speed constant frequency (VSCF)generation on generation-side converter and power factor regulation and good outputcurrent performance are realized. Theory reference and a new implementation forproject design of PMSG generation control system are afforded.
