With process of urbanization, power cable distribution network is more and more widely used. The census and management of the power cable databases are imminent. And the power cable detection is the most important fundamental technology of the power cable census and management.As traditional power cable detection technology has some limitations, this paper presents a new technology based on dual modulation wave power cable identification. Based on a large number of experimental data, several prototypes are researched and manufactured. The results of the power cable detection are consistent well with the reality during the detection of about600kilometers cables. With the feasibility of the technology is proved, the useful technology support of wide-ranging power cable detection is provided.Dual modulation wave technology superimposed two sine waves in different frequency to make a new periodic signal, whose positive phase and negative phase are totally different to be analyzed and recognized. Power cable identification technology based on dual modulation wave take advantage of the principle of electromagnetic, implement on-line detection of power cable by distinguishing phase of coupled signal. The system consists of transmitter part and receiver part. The transmitter part use the combination of boost chopper and full-bridge inverter to coupling the identification signal to the power cable armor by electromagnetic induction. The receiver part detect the target signal on the power cable armor by a mutual clamp, and analyze it by the phase identification technology to determine the correspondence between the power cable.Power cable detection technology based on dual modulation wave introduced here has already applied on GIS Intelligent Cable Management System, and achieved good operating results that totally meet the expected design goals.
