As the electronic technology, communication technology and automatic technology has become mature, the application range of small UAV is becoming more and more widely, especially in civilian areas has been rapid development. As an important part of the UAV system, data link system is mainly responsible for the data transmission between the aircraft and ground station.Under the precondition of fully guarantee the reliability of the transmission, how to improve the communication distance and the interoperability of communication protocol has become a key problem in the design of data link system. This topic aims to build a low-cost, high efficiency, strong commonality,flexible and reliable small UAV data link system, provide a reference for civil UAV data link in the field of standardization.First of all, this paper deeply studies the functional structure of the UAV data link system, and puts forward a kind of single link air-ground data transmission design based on the XTend wireless radio. And then has made an analysis of the technical characteristics of the key module in the system, the design scheme of hardware and interface issues as well, which determines the basic architecture of data link system. Next is the overall design of the UAV data link system, detailed introduces the design and implementation of the task data link and flight control data link. The main contents include airborne tilt control system, point-to-point link communication protocol, next-bit machine data processing system and Multi-Link trunking communication protocol, has completed the requirements of the relevant research. Finally, to test the design of the data link system instance, verify the reliability and practicality of the system.This independent design of small UAV data link system compared with the traditional solutions, greatly reduces the communication cost and complexity of the system, by the use of single link wireless communication mode, not only to improve UAV communication distance by30~50times, and the data transmission efficiency has also been greatly improved. At the same time, the link protocol standardization has provide a specification for the further development work of the project.
