As Guangzhou grid has become strong increasingly, GIS has been used more widely. It’s critical to the entire grid stability in Guangzhou that GIS is in the safe operation. Atpresent, GIS is installed in more than70substations of Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau. The application of GIS condition monitoring technology has a very important significanceto improve equipment reliability, reduce outage time, and improve the reliability of powersupply. This paper provides an overview of the current technology and methods of the GISstatus monitoring, including the concept of condition monitoring, the main target of the GIScondition monitoring, basic principles, the principles and methods of GIS online monitoringtechnology, as well as live testing. It can lay the foundation for the following on-linemonitoring technology and live testing techniques applied research. The paper gives research and analysis of the application of GIS online monitoringsystem as the importance, including the meaning and effect, the working principle, as wellas the principle, main functions, features and application examples of two PD onlinemonitoring system. Finally, the paper gives research and analysis of the application of GIS live testingtechnology, including ultrasonic partial discharge test, UHF partial discharge test, infraredthermal imaging tests and insulating gas component test. It gives introduction of theprinciple, equipment selection and application examples of the various testing techniques.According to the features and shortcomings of condition monitoring technologyapplication in Guangzhou Bureau, the paper proposes the GIS condition monitoringtechnical advice embodiment. Then bring GIS condition monitoring into the management ofthe day-to-day production in Guangzhou Bureau.
