The Research On The Multifunctional Flexibility Of Convention And Exhibition Building Design

The convention and exhibition buildings are costly public architecture which should follow maximizing-availability principle in the design and creating process. However, the current situation, such as the low utilization rate in exhibition venues and the low efficiency of economic and social benefits, has been an important issue that plagued the design community, which accompanied with the rapid development of the exhibition venues construction due to "Exhibition Economic Fever" in our country. Discussion and research carried out in response to this situation for many years, and have raised some useful design ideas and practical explorations which multifunctional exhibition venues were often mentioned. However, the theoretical research of multi-functional exhibition venues is still in the primary level, there are still many urgent problems to solve in the stadiums multi-functional design and practiceThis thesis analysed the large-scale exhibition venues can dynamic adapted to large space building utilization such as city Stadium, emergency evacuation facilities, Social event and assembly venues, illustrated the systemic compatibility and consistency in function, layout, space and structure, also explained the constraints which effect multifunction of exhibition venues. Combined with actual cases of versatility building, summarized the ideas and experience of success at home and abroad, the paper proposed design strategies and technical measures for multifunctional flexibility of Convention and Exhibition Building Design. This thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter, elaborated the background of the subject and proposed the concept of multifunctional flexibility in the convention and exhibition venues design.The second chapter, analyzed the present situation of exhibition economy and exhibition venue construction both domestic and international, summed up the problems and constraints.The third chapter, introduced the characteristics of exhibition building and the future development trend.The fourth chapter, through deeper analysis and study about the exhibition building features, pointed out intrinsic prerequisite the exhibition building possessed on the spatial characteristics and using characteristics. At the same time, discussed the feasibility of exhibition building compatible to large space building utilization via analysed other venues’ feature, and summarize related research, practice ideas and experience The fifth chapter, put forward the goal and strategy of the exhibition venues dynamic multifunctional flexibility design. According to these goals, strategies and constraints summarized in the preceding analysis, the paper proposed appropriate design ideas and measures in following aspects:the overall layout of the venue, the entire functional layout, the main exhibition hall versatile design, the attached space design and the external space design. Also concluded the technical measures to solve specific problems.
