This study took Yuanliangwan watershed of Jingbian as a case, surveyed the currentsituation, cause, harm and prevention of desertification in Loess Hilly region, as well as thewater utilization of industry, agriculture, daily-life and ecology, water supply and utilizationmethods. The survey results show: the desertification of Yuanliangwan watershed of Jingbianis the result of interaction of natural factors and human factors, but mainly caused by humanfactors, such as the falling groundwater tables, water pollution, unreasonable water utilizationof industry and agriculture, which are caused by oil exploration and other developmentactivities. The desertification can be described as “artificial desert”. Therefore, tofundamentally control the desertification, it’s necessary to start from reasonable use of waterresource.This survey summarized the materials of water resources and desertification ofYuanliangwan watershed, combining with the literature, deeply analyzed the impact ondesertification trend of water resource utilization in Yuanliangwan watershed. This area iswith very little precipitation and strong evaporation, the climate is very arid, water resourceitself is very scarce. But oil exploration caused water tables’ falling and surface water’spollution, which further exacerbated the shortage of water resource. As is known to us all,water supply limited the vegetation restoration, and promoted the development ofdesertification.This study targeted the climate, other natural characteristics and water resources,desertification conditions of Yuanliangwan watershed, with the principle “line with localconditions, fortification with harm”, put forward a series of suggestions benefit todesertification control of Yuanliangwan watershed from the point of water resource,such as:Strengthening the management of water resources to rationally allocate water resources;strengthening water conservation concept to improve water efficiency; strengthening thesewage treatment to prevent or control water pollution; improving surface water efficiency,limiting groundwater’s extraction; focusing on ecological construction to conserve water;enhancing water observation to prevent water pollution. Through the implementation of abovemeasures, aimed at promoting the rationality of water use and controlling the desertification to some extent in Yuanliangwan watershed, in order to protect the safe operation of oilexploration and other projects, to reduce the impacts on surroundings of operation, to achievethe goal of both development and protecting environment.
