With the rapid development of the transportation in Mainland China, there has an increasing number of the high-grade highway in construction. The concern of the highway development has subsequently transferred to the project to maintain, rebuild and expand the existing road. The stability in the joint part of new-old roadbed, and the prevention of reflection crack have been the major issues in the expansion project. It is proved that the glassfiber grids can improve the strength and performance of pavement effectively. In this thesis, based on that the reflection cracks always generate in the joint part of new-old roadbed, the glassfiber grids used in the expansion project are investigated systematically. The finite element models of cracks are built to calculate and analyze the influence of glassfiber grids on the stress distribution by Abaqus software. The tensile test of glassfiber grids in the water immersion, freezing, and freeze-thaw cycles is performed to determine the tensile strength of glassfiber grids. And then the flexural test and repeated load test of the samples with different width of cracks and sedimentation are carried out. It can be concluded that the glassfiber grids can delay the appearance of cracks and improve the capacity of the pavement significantly. The effects of different kinds of asphalt and temperatures on the inter-laminar shear strength are studied and discussed by the shear properties tests. Finally, the optimum paving craft used in the expansion project is determined by analyzing and comparing many different crafts. This research provides the foundation of the glassfiber grids applied in the expansion project of highway.
