Huizhou ancient housing is a treasure of traditional Chinese architecture, as asignificant part of Chinese ancient architectural system,which owns high academicvalue and modern heritage importance. This paper is a thematic research on themodule of Huizhou ancient housing. On the basis of field survey and analysis ofmapping data about ancient housing, the author calculates the plan module ofancient housing in six Huizhou ancient villages including three regions as Yi Xian,Shexian and Wuyuan, fulfilling the use of Mathematical Statistics methods andYabai principle in Feng shui theory, combining with the history of Weights andMeasures and creation of Huizhou housing. Then, the development trends of thecarpenter’s ruler during the Ming and Qing Dynasty are deduced. On basis of this,the development trends and geographical distribution characteristics of thecarpenter’s ruler are illustrated with use of the knowledge of geography,sociology,economics and history. Finally, the application of research results areelaborated from three aspects as follows: identification of the origins,repair andprotection and dividing generation of Huizhou ancient housing.
