The water supply network is an important infrastructure of city. It hasimportant significance to minimizing the investments of the pipeline network onthe basis of meeting the requirements of water consumption, water pressure andwater quality while design the pipeline. This paper summarizes the development of optimal design of water supplynetwork at home and abroad, analyzes the objective function and constraints of thepipe network optimization model, translates the optimal design of water supplynetwork to optimization model which minimize the cost on the constraints ofhydraulic balance and boundary conditions. To solve the optimization model isdivided into two stages.①optimize the allocation of the initial flow.②pipenetwork hydraulic calculation. The method of minimum cubic summation for flowdistribution is put forward to distribute the initial flow. The method takes theminimum cubic summation of all the pipes flow as the calculating goal. distinguishthe main pipe and connecting tube according to the calculation results. The methodhas good practicability. The model of water supply network optimization is to bein-depth researched. The stochastic optimization method, enlivened optimizationmethod and multiple-enlivened optimization method are put forward. The modelingand solution procedure is elaborated. The methods provide a new way to optimizethe design of water supply network. Take She-xian county pipe network forinstance. Get the optimization design by comparing the calculated results andanalyzing characteristics of various methods. The optimal design method is putforward.
