The construction industry’s long-term inefficiencies, and the ubiquitous "zerosum game" antagonistic relationship between owners and contractors, have made thetrust issue become the focus of the industry and academic. Trust is not only a "binder",which connects construction project’s participants tightly, to ensure the successfulcompletion of the project; but also is a "lubricant", which improves the relationshipsamong construction project’s participants, to ensure the successful completion of theproject. However, the current research on construction project’s trust is not much inour conntry; and trust is closely related to the social environment, the foreign trustresearch may not be applicable in our country. This paper researchs on trust evolutionbetween the two main participants-owner and contractor based on FCM causalknowledge and reasoning, which improves the theoretical system of trust inconstruction projects, increases trust between owner and contractor and providesstrategic support in engineering practice.Firstly, this paper researchs the issue of construction trust status both at homeand abroad, and analyzes their achievements and shortage, which leads to the maincontents of this subject. Secondly, this paper extracts24initial trust factors betweenowner and contractor by research on23domestic and foreign literature, and sets thequestionnaire for the project management of owners based on these trust factors, andcollects123valid set of data, and extracts8common factor through data collectionand factor analysis.Thirdly, this paper analyzes the causal relationship between theconcept nodes which is composed by these key factors, and gets the weight ofcausation through expert method, and builds trust model based on FCM. Finally, using FCM reasoning and feedback mechanisms, this paper simulates trust evolutionbased on FCM through four scenarios: organizational characteristics and contractchanges; relational characteristics and contractual changes; opportunistic changes;contracts, communication and opportunistic changes; and analyses the simulationresults, and ultimately build trust evolution model.
