Study On Xian Metropolitan Area Based On Transport Strategy

Metropolitan Coordinating Area generally refers to the layering structurecomposed by one or more central cities, as well as surrounding small and medium-sizedcities and regions, which have close social and economic ties towards central cities.Transport Development Strategy, embodying and serving for social-economicstrategy, is designed to enhance harmonic coordination between transportation systemsand socio-economic development, and promote their flexibility to future situation.As a case study, this paper gives an empirical research on Xi’an metropolitan areafrom the perspective of transport strategy theory. Based on Xi’an metropolitan area, itconducts a detailed investigation by using transport strategy theory, outlines the urbantranspot, inter-city transport and external transport project adapted for Xi’anmetropolitan area. Lastly, it offers a blueprint for transport strategy of Xi’anmetropolitan areaThe paper is divided into five parts.The first part is a full introduction ofmetropolitan transport strategy, as well as the similarities and differences with othertransport strategy.The second part is a case study on Xi’an metropolitan research. It then discusses thesituation and problems of Xi’an metropolitan development from the aspects ofopportunities, comparative advantages and challenges.In the third part, By use of SWOT matrix analysis, strateges such as make full useof advantages, eliminate weak points, seize opportunities and meet challenges areproposed. By taking four factors (space, time, flow, gravitational field) intoconsideration, the layering structure in Xi’an City is obtained. USE the double structureto analysis the traffic of xi ’an metropolitan area. In the forth part, this paper points out main problems existing in Xi’an metropolitantransport, then puts forward the strategic objectives.The fifth part explains the relationship between transport strategy and themetropolitan area’s economic and social development. The overall goal is regionalintegration, market-oriented and higher level of development.Hopefully, this paper may have a guiding role in Xi’an metropolitan’seconomic-socio coordination development, give policy makers early insight into Xi’anmetropolitan transportation trends, so as to formulate a moderate advancedprogramme.In this way, this paper may make a bit of contribution to Xi’anmetropolitan’s economic and social development, to achieve optimal allocation ofresources, and promote comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable economic andsocial development.
