Research On The Human Settlements Construction Wisdom Of Traditional City In Huizhou Area

Each city in ancient China had its own particular concepts and techniques ofconstruction. With the rapid spread of urbanization nowadays, it is significant bothacademically and pactically to explore these concepts and techniques.The birth anddevelopment of cities in ancient Huizhou was rooted in the profound regional cultureand natural setting of this area.,and therefore unique human settlement wasfostered.With the guidance of the scientific theories of human settlement, this paperdigs deeply into the great wisdom of the dweller in Shexian, Huangshan in AnhuiProvince in order to learn the concepts and tecniques of city planning in ancient China.Through literature review and field investigation, this paper tries to annalysis themain characteristics of the human settlement, geographical and human environment inHuizhou area in order to sum up the experiences in decision-making about siting,shape, landscape architecture, land use, environment building in core district andconstruction of infrastructure facilities of Shexian.Take Shexian—the old town today as the main object of study, the investigationspreads out from the beginning of the life of human beings to the initial post-liberationperiod,and focuses on the time when the city was full-blown during the Ming-QingDynasties.Review of the history of ancient Shexian helps to trace the evolution ofinhabitation environment of the city thus presents a basis for the whole research. Thenthe great impact of natural landscapes on city planning was argued in the light ofanalysis of the natural and social environment of the city.While study on landprogramming and street layout reflects the space utilization on consideration ofmaterial and spiritual functions, the research into environment building in core districtand infrastructure construction clearly reflects the demand and pursuit of more livableenvironment. With the wisdom of human settlement building of Shexian summrized asa guide, the end of the paper proposed suggestions on conservation and development of the ancient city in modern society.
