This research is based on interdependency analysis between transportationinfrastructures. The mechanism of interdependencies’ existence among transportationnetworks is elaborated, while the importance of interdependency analysis is explained.Key problems during interdependency analysis are pointed out afterwards andapplicable quantitative models and calculating processes are presented. The applicationsof transportation infrastructure interdependency analysis are introduced as well, whichillustrates the practical significance of interdependency analysis.In this paper, the transportation infrastructure interdependencies are defined andexplained from the perspective of dependencies classification and hierarchical analysis,and the subject of interdependence analysis of transportation infrastructure is specified.The traffic interdependencies among different modes of transportation and pavementperformance interdependencies within the highway system are discussed in this studyand two kinds of situation analysis models are put forward respectively with two kindsof situation analysis model adopted and analyzed to verify the calculation process andthe applicability of the models.In the rest part of the article, highway infrastructure is the main object of research.Based on interdependency analysis, the existing problems in pavement performanceevaluation system are pointed out, and suggestions to make up for the deficiencies arepresented. Meanwhile, a new type of model for pavement performance prediction isbrought forward in the basis of the infrastructure interdependency analysis, taking intoconsideration the mutual influence between sections, and a simulation example isintroduced to verify the applicability of the new prediction model. At last, this paperelaborates how interdependency analysis can help decision making of highwaymaintenance actions.This article’s innovation mainly manifests in the concept of interdependenciesbetween transportation infrastructures and the establishment of analyzing models. Theinterdependency analysis among transportation infrastructures aims to find out theinteraction relations between different transportation infrastructures. In interdependencyanalysis between different modes of transportation infrastructures, traffic volume is chosen as analysis object, and methods of transportation mode split are introduced inanalysis. In interdependency analysis of transportation infrastructures of the same mode,this paper mainly discusses the highway system. Traffic assignment theories andpavement performance deterioration theories are introduced to analyze the pavementperformance interdependencies. Pavement performance’s effects to traffic assigningresults are quantified for the first time in this paper when interdependencies withinhighway networks are analyzed, and calculating formulae are put forward at the sametime. Based on interdependency analysis of highway networks, this paper presents anew type of road performance evaluation system and a new type of pavementperformance prediction model, attempting to improve and supplement existingperformance evaluation system, pavement performance prediction models, and highwaymaintenance decision methods of highway systems.In the process of establishing transportation infrastructure interdependencyanalysis models, four stage method of traffic planning, pavement structural behaviortheories, and the method of Monte Carlo simulation are adopted.
