By comparing the origins and development of the architecture and literature, wecan find the similarity both in the inner structure and external cultural expression. Withthe recession of theocracy and rising of Individual consciousness, there was a greatturning from classicism to romanticism in literature. However, the process was muchslower in architecture. The Great Building broke down with the social division of labor.Small Building became the subject of architecture. The paradox of being casual andpermanent in architecture showed itself after the architecture had lost its sanctity. The answer lay in the literal fiction, where imagination and reality coexist withoutcontradictory. Architects learned to think of a theory in general and design accordinglyin a specific case. The fabrication by the architect is now reality. To understand histheory, the works should be carefully read, vice versa. If we analyze architectures in a linguistic approach, we can classify them into threelevels: signal and signification, words and text. The works and theories of RemKoolhaas and Shu Wang were chosen and analyzed in two steps: fiction and fabrication.Based on the design policy analyzed, it was assumed that the similarity behind the“fictional form” is the key to fabricating process. Four cases exemplify the waysimilarity works, which according to Michel Foucault, can be categorized into fourgroups. The design process of an office building in Beijing CBD area is narrated as theapplication of the theory of “fiction”. The way Chinese landscape painting deal withdifferent scales inspired me to breakdown the volume of the box into smaller parts, which can be measured by human’s eye and where more activity can take place.Consideration of form and proportion give way to the reality shown in fabricated“vocabulary”.
