With the development of economy, the highway construction in China is not limited tothe plains area, mountain highway and plateau highway is also booming. Influenced bytopography and geomorphology, the mountain highway will inevitably appear more longerslope and larger gradient longitudinal slope road. The long longitudinal slope is prone todestruction because of the adverse conditions of overloading, low-speed and largehorizontal force when vehicle is in the upgrade process. Especially in the hot summer, theshear strength and modulus of asphalt mixture are drastically deteriorated with theincreasing of temperature, and the shear flow deformation of asphalt mixture will appear forthe insufficient of shear capability under the condition of high temperature, gradually, therut occurs and seriously affect the performance of the pavement. On the other hand, ourcountry has not promulgated the long-uphill asphalt pavement design method, it makes thelong-uphill asphalt pavement designed by the current specification ignores the effect of themechanical characteristics and environmental factors, and it can’t guarantees a betterpavement performance and service life. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out the researchof dynamic response and pavement design methods of long-uphill asphalt pavement aimingat above problems. The ABAQUS user subroutines were written by Fortran language, and a dynamicresponse model of the long-uphill asphalt pavement under moving load was established; The influence of outside factors such as slope, the beginning speed of the slope, vehicleloading and temperature on the dynamic response of long-uphill asphalt pavement wereanalyzed; The mechanical cause of early damage of long-uphill asphalt pavement wasanalyzed; A comprehensive analysis of the four main factors that affect the dynamicresponse of long-uphill asphalt pavement was carried out, and the functional formulabetween the maximum transverse shear strain within the surface layer and the four factorswas set up; A rutting model of the long-uphill asphalt pavement including the main factorssuch as slope, speed, temperature and vehicle loading was proposed; The maximum shear stress within the surface layer and the pavement material shear strength were suggested tobe the control indexs in the design method of long-uphill asphalt pavement, and a completeset of long-uphill asphalt pavement design method was established. The research results ofthis paper can provide a reference for the study of dynamic response of long-uphill asphaltpavement, structural transformation of the existing long-uphill asphalt pavement and thestructural design of the new road.
