Hankou Concession embodies the culture and soul of Wuhan, while Li-Fen Residence is a quintessential Wuhan-style dwelling culture. Today, as new buildings keep springing up, the boundary and the skyline of Hankou Concession area became chaotic and obscure while its area intentionality keeps reducing. In2004, due to the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Tunnel, buildings in the vicinity of Tongrengli Neighborhood and Xian’anfang Neighborhood were partially removed. Tongrengli and Xian’anfang Neighborhoods were once at the verge of being demolished but finally preserved as heritage buildings for Li-Fen House’s architectural and historical significance. This paper will choose Tongrengli and Xian’anfang Neighborhoods as research subject and conduct a complete analysis on the site and contradiction brought about by vacant and idle site. I will dig into issues like urban morphology, boundary, skyline, economy, society, etc., identify the disjunctions in different layers of the sites and explore the negative effects these disjunctions have on the environmental quality of human settlements of the surrounding area. I’ll further discuss the feasible strategies to connect these disjunctions utilizing landscape architecture design method so as to restore the environment of human settlements.
