Natural ventilation is an effective measure to reduce energy consumption andimprove indoor environment. The developers pursuing high intensity and high volumeratio in residential development that caused by the shortage of city land and the exorbitantprices for land makes high-rise residential buildings in a design tendency of deep depth. The enlargement of the depth of high-rise residential buildings makes a great deal ofresidence single-sided natural ventilation. It makes the problem of poor natural ventilationcaused by single-side ventilation more serious. Poor natural ventilation not only multipliesthe energy consumption of residence, but also reduces the quality of indoor air and hurtshuman body health. Researching on a quantity of improvement strategies in the paper isaimed at putting forward optimal design strategies for improving the situation ofsingle-sided natural ventilation of residence.Through consulting literature and field investigation, first of all, the paper illustratesthe universality of single-sided natural ventilation residence and the necessity of researchin this field. By means of field investigation, the current situation of single-sided naturalventilation that the coming soon simulation verification based on is brought to light. Thenthis paper investigates optimal design strategies for the ventilation effect of single-sidednatural ventilation residence thoroughly through the method of CFD date analysis andputting forward some design strategies about architecture plane form and buildingorientation and balcony and bay window. The quantification of the average air velocityand the ratio of air velocity and area is the indicator in this study. As a result, theinfluences that different building orientations reacted on the ventilation effect ofsingle-sided natural ventilation are not the same. In these buildings orientations researchedin this study, the best building orientation is south and22.5degrees south by east andsoutheast when the leading wind direction is SE. Increasing the concavo-convex variety ofarchitecture plane form is propitious to the single-sided ventilation. Adding balcony andbay window whose side wall is at an angle of30degrees and60degrees to its neighboringwall can promote the indoor single-sided ventilation. Finally, the paper summarizes thewhole research work and points out the shortage of this paper. The paper ends with expectations and development directions about this research.
