At present, the occurrence of traumatic brain injury is growing in the modernsociety, its mortality and morbidity is higher, so it is paid much attention. It requires amedical apparatus and instruments——Skull Operating Rack in craniocerebral surgery,especially the Mayfield head holder. It can provide doctors and patients a goodoperation positions, and provide great help for the smooth implementation of surgery.But it also appear some shortcomings and the insufficiency such as head slippage, skullpenetration. This paper carries on the analysis and optimization based on theseshortcomings and the insufficiency of the Mayfield head holder, to make it easier andmore convenient, safer and more reliable in use.Firstly, this article analyses the advantages and disadvantages of Skull OperatingRack which is commonly used at present, and the optimization and improvementscheme of the Mayfield is put forward combined with the existing medical reports.According to improvement scheme and reference to the existing structure, using Pro/Eto design3D modeling to the components in the system, and determine the way ofconnection and locking positioning forms between the components. To avoid failures,stress analysis and strength check of the key components in the head holder systemmust be carried out, programming to find the stress state of a component’s maximumstress by means of MATLAB. Some typical artifacts is executed with finite elementanalysis by ANSYS, aimed at getting the deformation and the stress diagram of thecomponents, and then make a comparison with the results of the previous calculation.Secondly, it completed the design of signal processing circuit according to theoutput signal type of sensor. Using PCI8360V to transfer the signal which processed bythe circuit into the computer, then the collected data is processed with LabVIEW, andthe results is showed on the front panel so that it can be easy to read by the users. Whilevideo acquisition module is used to collect and save the operation video to facilitatemedical academic exchange and improve staff skills. It also make some simple analysison telemedicine, the data acquisition system is released on the internet through webpublishing functions provided by LabVIEW, and this function is beneficial to theimplementation of the telemedicine.Finally, simple model head holder is produced to test the new functions of the improved head holder system, and analyze the factors affecting the applied load and thedepth driven in skull.The improved Skull Operating Rack reduce the risks of the present head holdersystem, it achieve real-time measurement to the applied load and the depth driven inskull. In the conclusion part of this paper, some proposals are put forward to furtherimprove and refine the head holder system.
