Buried pipelines are corroded by various factors, or even leak caused greateconomic losses in underground harsh environment for a long time. Therefore, it is ofgreat significance to research of defect detection and evaluation method, accurately andefficiently measure buried pipeline corrosion status. The transient electromagneticmethod (TEM) is used for buried pipeline trenchless detection in this paper, focusing onthe optimizing design detection probe and studying of data processing and datainterpretation method.Based on the theory of TEM, transient electromagnetic response of buriedpipeline is introduced in this paper. And combined with the research contents, thesection working device and the signal characteristics of TEM are narrated. Thereceiving probe device with magnetic core is put forward for weak signal characteristicsof buried pipeline TEM detection. The results of contrast between the experiment ofprobe with magnetic core and without indicate that probe magnetic core cansignificantly enhance weak magnetic signals and improve the detection accuracy. Thecharacteristics of transient electromagnetic noise is analyzed, and the quality of thedetection signal is improved through data preprocessing algorithms includingelimination abnormal points, separation primary field and smooth filtering. Acalculation method of buried pipeline residual wall thickness is proposed, and weexperiment on the indoor and outdoor buried pipelines models. Test results candetermine the location and the degree of the buried metal pipeline corrosion defectsthrough analysis profile of inductive electromotive force and calculation of residual wallthickness. Compared with the actual wall thickness, the calculation method of buriedpipeline residual wall thickness is verified. The software of buried pipelines trenchlessdetection system is developed, and applied to the practical engineering problems. Itfinally verified the experimental conclusions through the means of the excavation. Thisresearch has important significance for the application and extension of TEM in buriedpipeline corrosion detection.
