Base isolation is an effective design technique against the earthquake damage ofthe structure. The lateral flexibility of the base-isolation system increase thefundamental period of the structure and thus obstruct the transmission of the earthquakeenergy. reduce the seismic response. Isolation structure system changes the energydissipation of traditional anti-seismic structure, the earthquqke energy is absorbed byenergy dissipative device set in a isolation layer rather than by the structure andstructure elements. This excellent energy dissipation characteristic can not be realizedby traditional anti-seismic structure. Improved by steel braces, Buckling-RestrainedBrace (BRB), as a new member, provides the familiar stiffness and strength of a steelbrace without the problem of compression buckling. BRB yields in tension andcompression. In stronger earthquake, it exhibits stable and predictable hystereticbehavior, provides significant energy dissipation capacity and is an attractive alternativeto protecting steel frame. The developed background、the prior research、the advantages、disadvantages andapplication of BRB and foundation isolation are firstly clarified in this paper, BRB andfoundation isolation are also carried out in the term of theory. In the following chapters, among concrete frame、BRB frame、foundation isolationframe、 BRB and foundation isolation frame the analytic comparison of seismicresponses in elastic and plastic stages is studied, which choose the Midas/gen, is usedto conduct the finite element analysis of the structure, including modal analysis, response spectrum analysis and time history analysis, comparing the maximal storydisplacement and inter-story displacement, the displacement time-history curves, andthe hysteresis curve. The results show that in the moderate and strong earthquake,BRB frame and lead core rubber isolation pad, with enhanced stable hysteretic behavior, have shown to lead to satisfactory response. The results of this study can be used as a reference of a similar structure’s researchand practical engineering application.
