Taking a certa concrete filled steel-tubular tied arch bridge as research object. The finite elementmodel is established by spatial finite element analysis program“Midas/Civil” based on the mechanicalcharacteristics of bowsting arch bridge. In the new century, the study of super-span arch bridge is gainingthe attention of the designers, in particular the application of new materials in long-span arch bridge.Because of the flexibility,the geometric noulinear of the long-span arch bridge are becoming more andmore obvious. The static characteristics, dynamic characteristics and stability are becoming more complex,therefore, it becomes essential to carry out the research in this field.The calculation theories, including the theory and step of finite element, the basic assumptions, thedesign theory and the feather of the tied arch bridges are analyzed, which provides the basic theories for theanalysis of static and dynamic characteristic of tied arch bridges.The static performances of tied arch bridges with CFRP cables and steel cables are analyzed based onthe finite-element method,including the dead load, vehicle load and temperature. The force and thedisplacement of the ribs,ties and derrick under the action of the dead load have no significant differencebetween the CFRP tied arch bridge and steel arch bridge.The significance and the method of the dynamic analysis are introduced, including the naturalfrequencies and vibration characteristics,The vibration mode of the CFRP tied arch bridge is similiar withthe steel arch bridge. The law of vibration of the CFRP tied arch bridge and steel arch bridge is drawed.Through comparative study, The influences on the dynamic characteristics of the tied arch bridge of thestructural changes in the form of the ribs and the ties are investigated.Finally, the stability of the long-span CFRP tied arch bridge is preliminary studied.The stabilityfactor of the CFRP tied arch bridge is approaching to the steel tied arch bridge. Some conclusions with acertain reference value are drawed.The mechanical properties of the CFRP ties and the derrick areanalyzed. It can be seen that the CFRP materials has a bright future in the construction of the tied archbridges.
