Fiber reinforced chip seal is a new maintenance technology imported from abroad inrecent years, which has an overall good performance in recovering texture depth, betteringsliding and abrasion resistance, improving using performance, increasing working life and soon. At present, the domestic study of fiber reinforced chip seal mainly concentrated in rawmaterial performances, mix ratio design and surface functions, but rarely in pavementperformances and evaluation indexes. What’s more, it’s the first time for fiber reinforced chipseal used in Guangdong Provence, and there’s no engineering experience related. therefore,the paper takes the opportunity of “Foshan first ring road” maintenance project, carrying outthe study on pavement performance and evaluation index of fiber reinforced chip seal in hotand humid southern China.After analyzing the influencing factors of fiber reinforced chip seal referring to pavementperformance, the article does research into all the pavement performance via theories andexperiments. Firstly, considering the rainy and high-temperature, the paper analyzes thewaterproof mechanism and discusses the effects on the water pressure and fragment particlesizes through dynamic permeable tests; Secondly, the forming mechanism of bonding strengthhas been analyzed for high-temperature adhesion properties, also the pull-out tests andadhesion properties tests under dynamic permeable water pressure are considered. Thirdly, forbetter illustrating the delayed effects to reflection crack, this article analyzes the resistancemechanism of crack based on fracture mechanics and finite element models and discusses theinfluences by tensile belt tests. What’s more, fatigue performance of fiber reinforced chip sealis considered through composite beams with cracks and prediction models of fatigue life.Finally, this article proposes the system of evaluation indexes with respect to fiberreinforced chip seal’s pavement performances in hot and humid Southern China againstclimates and driving conditions combined with the results obtained above and specificationrequirements involved, including waterproof performance, high-temperature adhesionproperties, crack resistance and fatigue performance.
