Semi-rigid base asphalt pavement is the typical pavement structure in China, which existthe weak bond strength between surface and base course. It always results in shearing slip,rutting, upheaval and deformation. The pavement integrity and using life are also affected. Inrecent years, people begin to value the interlayer bonding with the construction levelincreased. And the prime coat has been a key measure to interlayer treatment. However, thereare various prime coat species, and the pavement designation and construction standards hasno clear provisions on the choice of prime coat material species, usage, construction qualityand testing standard. Lacking of consideration to the actual situation, the designation andconstruction of the prime coat are mainly based on experience, which lead to the optionalchoice of species and usage and the poor interlayer bonding quality. Thus, the prime coatquality standards were systematically researched in this article.The main contents are as follows:(1) Investigated national material species and applysituations of prime coat, especially in Shaanxi province. And the existed problems of primecoat in engineering were found.(2) Analyzed the stress and fatigue life on different interlayersbond conditions by Bisar and pavement work state by Finite Element Software which arerelated to road alignment, climate condition, traffic condition. a classification of interlayersworking state was put forward according to the calculation results.(3) Combining with thefunction of prime coat, the key properties experimental methods and index were studied, thesekey properties include penetrability, mobility and cohesiveness.(4) Through the indoorPenetration Test and Direct Shear Test with different dosage, the most suitable dosage ofdifferent prime coat materials were obtained. The fitting formula between dosage andinterlayer shear strength was also builted. In addition, Interlayer shear fatigue equation wasproposed by Fatigue Test. And the road performance of different prime coat materials wereranked according to the test results.(5) The matching prime coat materials on differentworking state were recommended, which were resulted from the interlayer shear test resultsand the shearing force standards of working conditions.(6) Study on the roughened treatmentstandard of semi-rigid base surface, key control parameters of prime coat construction andquality testing methods, prime coat quality evaluation system were general offered. Andprime coat quality control standards based on highway working state classification weredetermined.
