With the development of economy, the wide application of power electronicequipments in our country industry and civil load, nonlinear power electronic devices inpower system is increasing, which makes a lot of harmonic current access to the grid,making fat distribution equipment utilization fell, loss of line increase, causing seriouspollution to the power grid, seriously affecting the safe and stable operation of powersystems. Active Power Filter is a kind of new power electronic devices, which caneffectively compensate harmonic and reactive current. Because of the real-time andaccuracy work characteristics, it is recognized as the most effective means to control gridpollution, and has been widely concerned.This article describes the latest development of APF at home and abroad, brieflydiscussed the basic structure and working principle of APF. What’s more, it researcheddetection methods, control strategies, the main circuit parameter design and componentselection in depth. In harmonic current detection part, based on a brief introduction to thecommonly used harmonic detection method such as band-pass or band-stop analog filterdetection method, fast Fourier transform method, detection methods based oninstantaneous reactive power theory, adaptive detection method, it comes up with a newsingle-phase ip-iq test method which improves the accuracy and timeliness of harmoniccurrent detection. In control strategy part, it analyzes the characteristics and the limitationsin application of three traditional methods: the triangular wave comparison method,hysteresis method, deadbeat control method.In order to verify the proposed detection method and control method is correct, thispaper use Matlab/Simulink to do a simulation of the system. And make detailed analysisof the peak current appeared in experimental results. The simulation results show that thenew method based on the design of parallel active power filter can effectively detect theharmonic components, and can filter out the harmonics, completion of the role ofharmonic suppression.
