Power cable is a very important power transmission equipment. With the rapid processof urbanization, the overhead lines are replaced by power cables, so the cables become agrowing part of power transmission equipment. The working states of cables directly affectthe transmisiton network security and economic operation, and the traditional cable tunnel’smanagement mode can’t meet the needs of the development of power grid. Therefore, itseems to be particularly necessary to change the management mode and do some researcheson condition monitoring.Virtual reality (VR) technology, an advanced human-computer interaction interfacetechnology, has been widely applied in the information display with virtual environments,state visual simulation expression, operation guide of analysis, ect.Then an idea is putforward for the problems that the cable tunnel management are facing now, to build anintegrated monitoring platform for cable tunnels based on VRFirst, we focus on the need for the condition monitoring method of cables and othersupport equipments. Then we analyzes exsisting problem in cable management mode andcondition monitoring of cable tunnels.Then, we build the integrated monitoring platformbased on vitual reality, people can get real-time state displaying with high immersion, aidedanalysis and historical data query in virtual environment The platform provides a way tomonitor the temperature and humidity, the working state of cable tunnel.It set up anintegrated monitoring platform to collect the failure information, working statusinformation and cable tunnel environment information, which can help people to knowexactly what the cables’ real-time state and guide them through a step-by-step analysis.After analyzing current situation of the cables in Wuhan, this platform has been put intoindustrial practice, and it applied successfully to Fengluo Tunnel and East-lake Tunnelfinally.
